Teaching is universally acknowledged as one of the most noble and respected professions. Historically, India lacked a standardized and uniform approach to teacher education. However, in the post-NEP 2020 era, significant strides have been taken to harmonize and transform the teacher training landscape in accordance with the comprehensive reforms proposed in school education. Previously, the structure of school education in India was broadly categorized into three levels: informal pre-schooling, primary/elementary education and secondary education. With the advent of NEP 2020, this structure has been redefined into four progressive stages viz. Foundational, Preparatory, Middle, and Secondary; ushering in a paradigm shift in both curriculum design and teacher preparation with 21 st century skills.
